Looking back on the road since establishing Willingness in 2011, I am filled with gratitude and a tremendous sense of accomplishment. The journey has been filled with challenges, lessons, and unexpected moments of growth. As a student, I noticed that mental health treatments in Malta were sometimes disconnected, particularly in the private sector, with limited coordination and inconsistent client experiences.

At that time, clients faced a fragmented system with isolated experts. This made comprehensive care hard to access, navigate, and trust fully. That experience led me to imagine a more unified care model. I envisioned teamwork, open communication, and mutual respect shaping outcomes. The goal was holistic, consistent, and effective services for every client. This method aimed to support clients better than working independently could.

With this aim in mind, I founded Willingness in Malta. It’s a multidisciplinary team transforming local mental health care practices. The concept was novel, bringing multiple disciplines together under one roof. Experts in psychology, sexology, psychiatry, and coaching collaborate directly. This structure supports seamless teamwork focused on each client’s overall wellbeing. Professionals learn from each other and grow through shared experiences.

Psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychiatrists, and other specialists could exchange ideas, analyse cases (with strict confidentiality), and create integrated treatment programs tailored to each individual’s unique context. This collaborative methodology aimed to address clients’ complex and evolving needs far more effectively than any single practitioner could alone, ensuring more coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive mental health care.

Over the years, Willingness has grown steadily in expertise. Its community impact and professional reach have also expanded. Our team attends training and supervision to maintain growth. These sessions involve reflection, shared learning, and regular peer feedback. They’re not formalities; they strengthen growth and professional development. We challenge each other and refine our work together. New ideas and research keep us continuously improving our approach.

This commitment to continuous learning ensures we deliver services based on the latest information while also fostering team members’ professional growth, encouraging reflective practice, peer learning, and the development of new skills across all disciplines.

Accountability is also fundamental to our approach. By working closely together, we hold each other to high standards. This culture of mutual accountability enhances service quality and creates an environment where professionals can share experiences. As a result, we generate creative ideas and achieve better outcomes for clients.

In addition to internal collaboration, we prioritise external communication. A core activity is writing blogs and sharing articles. This supports both clients and professionals in meaningful ways. It keeps us current with mental health developments worldwide. It sharpens how we explain ideas in accessible language. We share insights publicly through consistent written contributions and outreach. These efforts reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support.

Over the past decade, it has been inspiring to see the rise of new multidisciplinary clinics across Malta. The growing number of professionals enhancing client well-being shows the positive impact of our work on the broader community.

The journey so far has been deeply meaningful, and I remain hopeful for the future. It’s been an honour to witness Willingness evolve and to contribute to shaping how mental health is supported and understood in Malta.
